Myanmar A Lel Chaung
The Shwe Taung Thu farmers group, which translates to "Golden Farmer," is a farmer-owned enterprise made up of over 3,000 smallholder Danu and Pa-O producers from 17 villages in the Ywangan area of Southern Shan State, Myanmar. Women make up 60% of the total workforce.
This coffee is grown and processed by 180 families from the village of A Lel Chaung.
Shwe Taung Thu empowers small-scale farmers by giving them control over coffee production, pricing, and community contributions. This frees them from middlemen exploitation and increases their earnings. The focus is exclusively on producing natural processed coffees (dry naturals) – the climate and terroir are particularly well-suited to this method, with very dry heat during the harvest season creating ideal drying conditions.
